County officials pick berries for nursing home residents

Jun. 26—A trio of Schuylkill County officials spent their Thursday afternoon working on a farm to give back to the community.
Commissioner Chairman Barron L. Hetherington, Acting Controller Sharyn Yackenchick and Treasurer Linda L. Marchalk worked to fill 18 quarts with strawberries at B&R Farms in Ringtown, which is Hetherington's family farm.
Marchalk came up with the idea to donate fresh strawberries to residents at Shenandoah Senior Living Community. The officials try to do community service whenever the opportunity arises, she said.
The strawberries were to be used in Friday's dessert for residents: strawberry shortcake.
