SPRINGFIELD — State Sen. Adam Gomez on Wednesday formally endorsed state Sen. Adam G. Hinds of Pittsfield for lieutenant governor just hours after Hinds’ official announcement for the post.

“Adam Hinds is the sort of transformational leader Massachusetts needs,” Gomez said in his endorsement. “I know he is a trusted leader. He has what it takes to understand diversity, equity, and inclusion. Before I was even a senator, I worked with him on complex issues when it came to immigration, when it came to health care and also veteran issues.”

Hinds, whose Senate district covers Berkshire County and extends into Hampshire, Franklin and Hampden counties, announced his candidacy for the lieutenant governor post outside Pittsfield City Hall.

He then appeared with Gomez at Latino’s Kitchen at 2757 Main St., in the North End of Springfield.

Gomez praised Hinds “has taken on the most divisive and complex issues of our time, from the Middle East peace process, the opioid epidemic and COVID-19 pandemic recovery, Adam will ensure the lieutenant governor office represents every community and every region in the Commonwealth.”

Making his second stop in Springfield “says a lot,” Gomez said.

Hinds was scheduled for another campaign stop at Beacon Hill in Boston on Wednesday afternoon.

Gomez was elected to the Senate last November in the Hampden District, taking office in January. He is a former Ward 1 city councilor.

Hinds in his announcement pledged to build a better future for all residents in the Commonwealth, MassLive reported Wednesday. He was first elected to the Senate in 2016, and is the Senate chair of the Joint Committee on Revenue.

Hinds listed his priorities as including racial justice, economic development and job creation, climate change, traffic and transit and housing.

“I am running for Lieutenant Governor because Massachusetts needs visionary leadership to take on the greatest challenges to residents — challenges that will determine the very ability of our Commonwealth to thrive in the next decade,” Hinds said in a prepared release. “I have spent my career taking on some of the world’s most complex issues. I want to use my experience to make meaningful change in this state that we love so much.”

A news release stated that in addition to the Senate seat, Hinds is a former UN negotiation team member, and a nonprofit leader.

He serves as chairman of the a new Senate Committee on “Remington MA: Post Pandemic Resiliency,” according to the announcement.

He was founding director of the of Pittsfield Community Connection, a youth violence prevention program, and also led the Northern Berkshire Community Coalition based in North Adams.
